Max and Lucky Bolanis

Max and Lucky Bolanis

Hello! We are Max and Lucky Bolanis and we are tickled to be chosen Pet of the Month for April. We would love to tell you a little bit about ourselves.

Max:
I was born May 15, 1994. My mommy got me as a companion for her 6-year-old Yorkie, Teddy Bear, after his buddy, Missy, died. I was a problem child at first, but my mom would not give up on me. It took two years (and a carpet cleaner), but I was finally house- broken. My mom said that I became the perfect pet after that. She married my dad in 2000. We had some battles at first, but I laid down some ground rules with him and he turned out pretty good. For instance, he said dogs should not sleep on the bed. Mom and I were like, "yeah right!" Now, he carries me to bed every night from the living room. When it comes to humans, it's all in the training. I am pretty spoiled now and even have my own recliner in the living room. I started going to OVVH last spring because they were the first to be able to treat my allergies and I feel so much better now. They were also very kind when I lost my buddy, Teddy Bear, to cancer one-year ago. My favorite pastimes are going for walks, traveling in the car (I have been across the country two times), and playing "keep away" from my new little buddy, Lucky.

Lucky:
I was born March 9, 2001. Mommy and daddy came to look for a new companion for Max, who was sad, after Teddy died. My mommy picked me out of a group of 5 puppies when I was 8 weeks old and I was set to go to my new home at 12 weeks. I practiced being the cutest one and it sure worked. At 11 weeks, my breeder found out that I had a bad heart defect and told my mommy she could not buy me and to pick another puppy. Mommy wanted me so badly that she asked to adopt me and give me a good home at least for a year. I was not expected to live much past that. We fell in love with each other and mommy did all she could to try and save my life. She found a cardiologist and hand-fed me to get me up to 5 pounds so I could have a special surgery. It was a risky surgery, but it was a great success. I still have an enlarged heart and a murmur, but mommy says that is how I can love my family so much and this way we can hear it and feel it. I love to wake her up with kisses each day. I love to play fetch with dad. My favorite pastime is bugging Max. Don't tell him this, but I really love him too.

Last September our mommy and daddy had a "human puppy." We spent 3 days at OVVH and the word at the kennel was that if we were not nice to this new pup that we would find ourselves in the "big house" real quick. We decided to divide responsibilities. Max is in charge of protecting little Bernadette since he is bigger and stronger and Lucky is responsible for entertainment. Max always gets between her and visitors while Lucky plays next to her and makes her laugh. We love her and our family.

We are at OVVH quite often for exams with Dr. Horn, to visit with Tiffany, and baths with our stylist, Susan. We want to thank them and the rest of the wonderful staff for the loving care they give to us. Please say hello if you see us since we always enjoy meeting new people.
