This
month’s Pets of the Month live with Becky, one of our front
office staff. These sweet kitties are like her children and they
live very pampered lives.
This is "Shilo".
He came to me when he was 4 months old. A friend adopted him from
the Carlsbad Animal Shelter. She had named him "Q-tip".
When I first met "Shilo" I knew he had to be mine. He
was just a ball of white fur and my friend had him living outside
in the cold. I took him home and renamed him "Shilo",
after the song written by Neil Diamond. He will turn 5 on February
15. His nickname is "Gilligan", for he is the clown
of my household. He shares his home with 4 other companions. Up
until recently, he was the cat with the clean bill of health.
Unfortunately, back in July of 2004, he was experiencing several
severe choking spells. Of course the neurotic owner that I am,
I immediately rushed him to see Dr. Horn. After blood tests and
x-rays, "Shilo" was diagnosed with Feline Asthma. Of
course, I never heard of cats contracting Feline Asthma, but with
the quick response from Dr. Horn, I am glad to say that we have
"Shilo's asthma somewhat controlled with allergy shots. Who
would of thought you could give cats allergy shots? But he takes
it like a pro and he purrs every time. He is one of the loves
of my life, for he knows how to wrap his "paws" around
my heart.
"Sassie"
This is "Sassie" Sassie came to me in May, 1999 at 7
weeks of age. She was a stray just wondering around the neighborhood
where I was living at the time. When I first saw her I knew my
feline family had grown once again. I never knew how she found
me, but I was blessed the day we met. After having her for a month,
I received a visit from a neighbor asking if I had found a black
and white kitten on my doorstep. My heart went straight to my
stomach. Of course, I said I had. She then told me that she was
the person who dropped the kitten off on my front porch. She had
noticed my other two cats frolicking in my window, and knew that
this little kitten would definitely have a great home with me.
Needless to say, Sassie has made herself right at home. She will
be turning 6 this March, and is the "Queen Bee" (excuse
me, the "Queen Cat") of the household.
I am very
happy to have shared two of my loves with you as "Pets of
the Month."
