Say Hello
to Merriam and Webster
Hi! I’m Merri. It’s short for Merriam. I am a dilute
calico, at least that’s what mom and dad say. Of course
I didn’t know any of this at first, all I knew was that
I was in a really small cage in a really cold room. There were
a lot of other cats and kittens in the room too. I was in here
for a few days until a couple of humans decided that they wanted
to take me home. I had to wait a few days, but then I got to go
home with my new parents! When I got home I couldn’t’
get enough affection from them. I followed their hands everywhere.
When I finally got tired enough, I fell asleep making sure that
they were right close.
At first,
I was sick. I was really sick. That’s when I met Dr. Sage.
Mom and dad were worried about me. I sneezed all the time and
was really run down. So they took me to the vet. She was great!
Very gentle, very loving and she knew exactly how to help me.
After a few weeks, I started to feel better. I became more playful
and loving. Thanks Doctor Sage!
Just as things
started to settle down and life was becoming normal, mom and dad
brought home another cat! At first, they kept the other kitten
separate from me. They weren’t sure how I would react. I
would spend my time at the door reaching under it to try to play
with the new little guy. After a little while, they let him out
and we are good friends now.
Webster’s
my name. I’m a traditional, apple headed lilac, lynx-point
Siamese. That’s quite a mouthful. I would have a heck of
a time in kindergarten. Mom and dad found me in the same place
that they found Merri. You’ve probably noticed that Merri’s
and my name sounds familiar. That’s because mom and dad
decided to name us after the dictionary. You know, Merriam Webster.
Merri is my best friend! We do everything together! Mom and dad
think this is because I was separated too early from my mother.
She didn’t have a chance to teach me much. It was Merri
who taught me how to do things like clean myself. She is great.
She is so patient with me. She even let’s me false suckle
on her. Because I was separated too early, I go everywhere with
her. Mom and dad think that the old nursery rhyme should be re-written
to read Merri had a little cat.
We lead a
rough life. We have our own cat beds, get as much food as we want
and play all day. We do have our own quirks though. For example,
neither of us actually meow. Merri chirps like a little bird and
I scream at people. When dad wakes up in the morning, he opens
his bedroom door and we greet him. Merri circles around his legs
and I jump up and give him a hug. We both love to have our tummies
rubbed. Merri literally throws herself over to get a rub down.
Anyway around
it though, we are now a happy family. We’ve even learned
nicknames. Merri is called “Bling-Bling,” because
she loves to play with mom’s jewelry. Given the chance,
I’m sure she would love to eat it. I’m called squeaky.
They call me this because, like I said, I don’t meow, I
squeak. We love to play with mom and dad and they, in turn, love
to play with us. Oh, don’t get us wrong, we have our share
of mischief too. Merri loves to eat flowers and we have destroyed
the arm of dad’s favorite chair. Even though we get in our
share of trouble, mom and dad love us and always take care of
us. Yes, we are defiantly one happy family.
