One of the
best unknown resources out there for pet owners during a very
challenging time are pet loss support groups. Many of these
support hotlines exist, all over the country. The closest and
the one we have the most experience with is the UC Davis Pet
Loss Support Hotline.
Veterinary
students who are voluntary and obviously love pets staff this
hotline. They are trained by a grief counselor and is considered
important training for future doctors. They are all their because
they are devoted to pets, their owners, and the bond they share.
When
calling the hotline, you can discuss your emotions, your pet’s
illness, or just talk about your pet’s life. Just talking
to someone can help, especially since sometimes it’s very
difficult to talk to the doctor right after your pet passes.
The hotline
is free. The number is 1-800-565-1526
